News Release: Home Rule Charter: 2100 plus signatures gathered, petitions to be delivered to county auditor

press release clipartPress Release

For use: July 23 until July 29, 2013

2100 signatures and counting!  The Community Rights Coalition of Jefferson County will be handing in the 2100 plus signatures gathered to place the issue of Home Rule Charter on the Jefferson County ballot in November. The group will deliver the petition signatures to the county auditor on Tuesday July 30th at 9:00 A.M. at the county courthouse. Please join us as we present our petitions to the county auditor!

If the auditor certifies at least 2100 signatures, voters will have a chance to elect local citizens, “freeholders” to re-design the county charter.  The new charter will allow voters to place initiatives and referenda directly on the ballot. Many counties in Washington State already have the right to place on the ballot initiatives or referendum on issues important to their citizens. Jefferson County on the Olympic Peninsula does not currently have that right.   Home Rule Charter will make this possible. CRC members will be collecting signatures up until the last moment.  Please sign if you have not already signed and you are a registered voter.  Go to the Food Co-op daily, look for us at the farmers markets and other public events.  Thanks for all who have signed and collected signatures.  If you have ANY signatures to hand in- please contact Val Phimster or Norm Norton.
